Gokwe man kills brother over land

A Gokwe man reportedly murdered his brother in a fight over a piece of land this Monday morning.

Ruyamuro Matsaukirwa (42) allegedly struck his brother Jongwe Matsaukirwa (49) with a machete on the back of his head and he died on the spot.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands Provincial Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms receipt of a report of murder in which a Gokwe man killed his brother over a piece of land. The incident occurred on 31 October 2022 around 0700 hours,” said Inspector Mahoko.

According to the police report, circumstances surrounding the murder case are that,
Ruyamuro Matsaukirwa of Village Matsaukirwa under Chief Chireya was working in his field when his elder brother Jongwe Matsaukirwa approached him and asked why he was encroaching into his field.

A misunderstanding arose between the two and it degenerated into a fight. Jongwe snatched a machete from Ruyamuro and struck him once on the chin.

Ruyamuro then managed to disarm his brother and struck him on the back of the head and Jongwe died on the spot.

The police urge members of the public to respect the sanctity of life and involve third parties to solve differences in order to avoid loss of life.
