In march this year, classroom blocks at Globe and Phoenix primary school caved in due to illegal mining activity beneath the school premises, injuring14 pupils.
Government reacted by moving the affected Globe and Phoenix primary school pupils into tents located at Russel Primary school grounds in Kwekwe.

As if the first disaster was not enough, some of the tent structures were destroyed by violent storms that hit Kwekwe early this morning.

Kwekwe district civil protection unit chaired by the District Development coordinator Fortune Mupungu visited the site to assess the damage was caused by violent storms that struck the gold mining city.

Amongst the CPU stakeholders wass the District Schools Inspector Herbert Maziriri, Zibagwe Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer Farayi Machaya, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe National Army and other stakeholders.
