Longtime favourite Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for Kwekwe’s Mbizo constituency and the incumbent Member of Parliament, Honourable Settlement Chikwinya faces stiff competition from his rival Corban Madzivanyika in the CCC candidates’ selection process.

Sources privy to developments in the opposition party in Mbizo constituency revealed that Chikwinya will face intense competition from Madzivanyika who has proved to be a force to reckon with in the recently held community caucuses.

“Corban is taking the lead, ‘akatora chinhu’ though process ‘isina kupera’, Setty noticing defeat rejected the roadmap which was brought by commissioners or facilitators opting for a secret ballot of which there were so many people so the secret ballot was going to take the whole day until evening, ” said the source on condition of anonymity.

When contacted for comment, Madzivanyika expressed confidence of a win although he could not comment much on the process.

“We have completed stage four which is the citizens’ caucus.”

He further revealed that the party has not yet confirmed the candidate for the Mbizo constituency.

“Not yet, confirmation is announced by our national leadership, ” he said.

When asked about his chances of bouncing back as MP for Mbizo constituency, Chikwinya said his chances lie in the final outcome.

“The chances are not in the province of my discretion, the chances are a result of a four-stage process that will culminate in the proclamation of a candidate to represent Mbizo.

“The process is still ongoing and an announcement will be made at the right time by the right authorities,” said Chikwinya.

Chikwinya won the legislative seat against ZANU PF candidate Vongaishe Mupereri in 2018 and he has been the popular opposition party MP in Mbizo since. On the other hand, Madzivanyika has not been so popular in the Mbizo constituency and Kwekwe in general.
