Newly elected Kwekwe Cllrs sworn in

Kwekwe councillors elected in the recently ended March 26 plebiscite have taken their oath of office today at the council chambers.

They were sworn in by newly appointed substantive town clerk Dr Lucia Mkandhla.

The team of councillors include three re-elected Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)councillors; former Mayor Angeline Kasipo, former deputy Mayor Melody Chingarande and Washington Moyo with an addition of a new CCC councillor for ward 9 Zamani Ngwenya who replaced the late councillor Shelly Mutirwara.

A new ZANU PF councillor for Kwekwe Ward 8 Makomborero Mlambo has also been added to the team, replacing the late former deputy Mayor Cllr Shadreck Tobaiwa.

Speaking on the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony, the two new councillors Mlambo (ZANU PF)and Ngwenya (CCC) pledged to work for the betterment of the mining city.

“I am grateful to be in council, I have been sent here by the people to represent them.

“This is not an opportunity to make money or line my pockets but I am here as a servant of the electorate who chose me and sent me to represent their needs in terms of service delivery.

“I am not here to play, but to serve the people who elected me,” said Mlambo.

In addition, ward 9 councillor Zamani Ngwenya promised to work towards improved service delivery in the area under his jurisdiction.

“I am here to work for the betterment of service delivery in my ward because as I am talking the ward is characterized by illegal dumpsites, the roads are bad and we do not have street lights so I want to push for the best,” he said
