Nonhlanhla Makhosi, a young climate activist under Chief Ntabeni in Zhombe, is driving an all-hands-on-deck fight against climate change in her community.
She has been training rural women and schoolchildren on the benefits of recycling and biodiversity preservation.
Through community engagement meetings with traditional leadership and local government departments, she has set up environmental clubs at local schools, started nutritional gardens that employ climate-smart agro-techniques, and has demanded the enforcement of a fine for all people who cut trees for commercial purposes.
