As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, Palestinians are left to pick up the pieces and mourn their dead. The Gaza Strip’s descent into darkness is a stark reminder of the Israeli apartheid regime’s commitment to erasing the Palestinian people from the face of the earth. It is a genocide that continues unabated, with the international community’s complicity and silence serving as a green light for Israel to pursue its brutal agenda.
The Gaza Strip, home to over 2.2 million Palestinians, has been plunged into darkness – literally and figuratively. The Israeli apartheid regime’s genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people continues unabated, leaving a trail of death, destruction, and despair in its wake .
The latest escalation in violence began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas’s armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, launched a surprise attack on Israeli forces, breaching the heavily fortified barrier that has imprisoned Palestinians in Gaza for over 16 years. The operation, dubbed the Al-Aqsa Flood, was a desperate attempt to break free from the suffocating grip of the Israeli regime .
Speaking at the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People in the Capital, Palestinian ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri added that the Israeli military unleashed a barrage of airstrikes, artillery fire, and naval bombardments on Gaza, killing thousands of Palestinians, including women, children, and the elderly.
Ambassador Almassri said Gaza Strip’s already fragile infrastructure has been reduced to rubble, leaving millions without access to basic necessities like electricity, water, and food . But the response from Israel was swift and brutal.
“The international community’s response to the crisis has been woefully inadequate. Western leaders have either remained silent or issued lukewarm condemnations of Israel’s actions, while continuing to provide the regime with diplomatic cover and military aid. The United States, in particular, has been a staunch supporter of Israel, with President Joe Biden pledging unwavering allegiance to the Israeli regime and expediting shipments of munitions to assist in its genocidal campaign.
” In the face of such unrelenting suffering, it is imperative that we, as a global community, take a stand against Israel’s genocidal regime and demand justice for the Palestinian people.
“We must recognize the inherent value and dignity of Palestinian lives and reject the racist and dehumanizing narratives that have been used to justify their oppression. Only then can we hope to bring an end to Gaza’s descent into darkness and create a brighter future for all Palestinians”, Ambassador Almassri explained.
Ambassador Almassri reaveled that some governments and big powers who are singing all the times about human rights, freedom of speech, children rights and women rights are supporting these genocides.
Dr Almassri added that the Israeli leadership continues to perpetrate atrocities against innocent civilians with impunity, as they believe the international community will not hold them accountable for these heinous crimes.
Meanwhile, Israeli government’s actions in Gaza have been widely criticized, with many accusing its leaders of committing war crimes and genocide. The international community’s inaction has emboldened Israel to continue its policies, resulting in the capture and harm of innocent civilians.
