Persons with disabilities have been encouraged to participate in local authority and the National Assembly’s budget consultation meetings and use the platforms to air their grievances.
Speaking on the sidelines of a Youth Constitutional Indaba in Pumula Old, organised by ZIMCODD under the Strengthening Institutions and Youth Advocacy program, an advocate for PWDs, Tariro Gurure said such platforms are important as they give PWDs a chance to take part in decision-making processes.
“It’s of paramount importance that everyone participates so that we make our voices heard. I have seen scenarios where social services are made available to people with disabilities because of such engagements,” she said.
Bulawayo and other local authorities have started conducting budget consultation meetings to take contributions from community members.
