There was a significant rise in offences of having sexual intercourse with a young person in Mkoba Gweru in the months of August to October 2022.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Mkoba, Gweru Officer-In-Charge, Inspector Marvellous Masawi said that the Police could not immediately ascertain the cause of this rise but embarked on a districtwide awareness campaign in local schools and communities.
She said this while addressing delegates to the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe organised #16daysofactivismagainstgenderbasedviolence meeting held at YWCA Hall in Mkoba Gweru on 17 December 2022.
Mkoba also recorded 74 Gender-Based Violence Cases in 2022, with 70 perpetrated against women, added Inspector Masawi.
