Zimbabwe Republic Police in the Midlands province is hunting for culprits who murdered an artisanal miner at Dove River in Mberengwa.
In a statement, the ZRP spokesperson Inspector Mahoko confirmed the murder case.
“Police in Mberengwa are investigating a murder case where a 27-year-old man was found dead at Dove River with stab wounds on his body. The incident occurred on 08 of December 2021 at about 0400 hours,” said Mahoko.
It is said that on Wednesday one Wilson Chuma was prospecting for gold in the company of his two friends at the river where a group of assailants approached them armed with different types of weapons. The deceased’s friends fled the scene leaving him behind only to discover his lifeless body later the same day.
“Circumstances are that on the 8 of December 2021, the now deceased, Wilson Chuma of village 7 under Chief Bvute in Mberengwa was scouting for gold along Dover river in the company of the two other men when two unknown men armed with catapults approached them inquiring about their mission in the river.
“Upon sensing danger, his two colleagues fled in different directions leaving Wilson Chuma behind and later regrouped at Chuma’s home but Chuma did not show up.
“Relatives went to the scene where they found the Wilson Chuma lying dead and bleeding. The body was sent to Zvishavane District hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem,” said Mahoko.
Police are calling for those with information that may assist in establishing the full circumstances surrounding the case or information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to approach any nearest Police station.
